SBI Pharma and Scivita Medical entered into exclusive distribution agreement of single use endoscopes in urology field in Japan

SBI Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director & President: Yoshitaka Kitao; hereinafter “SBI Pharma”), a subsidiary company of SBI Holdings, Inc. which conducts research and development pharmaceuticals, etc., utilizing 5-aminolevulinic acid (*) and Scivita Medical Technology Co., Ltd. (Head office: Suzhou, People's Republic of China; General Manager: Dr. CHIN To; hereinafter “Scivita”), a medical device company that provides minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment solutions, and focuses on research, development and commercialization of medical endoscopes and related products, have officially signed an exclusive distributorship agreement for Scivita’s Single-Use Urology Videoscope, including single-use ureteroscope and disposable cystoscope in Japan.

SBI Pharma has developed “ALAGLIO Divided Granules 1.5g” and “ALAGLIO Oral 1.5g,” photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) agents indicated for visualization of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer during transurethral bladder tumor resection (TURBT), and the medical light source device “Aladuck 405,” and provide them to urology doctors in Japan.
Scivita has a comprehensive product lineup including reusable and single-use endoscopes, related equipment, and systems for various clinical departments, in China, Europe, America, and other countries.

Due to the risk of cross-contamination and the burden of maintenance and sterilization, demand for disposable, single-use endoscopes are increasing in the urology field. Through this partnership, SBI Pharma and Scivita plan to launch single-use endoscopes for urology before the end of 2023.

(*) 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA): An amino acid produced in mitochondria. It is an important substance that serves as a functional molecule related to energy production in the form of heme and cytochromes, and its productivity is known to decrease with age. 5-ALA is contained in food such as shochu lees, red wine and Asian ginseng. It is also known as a material forming chloroplasts in plants.
